Evening guys. So the problem seems to be with these BE25s. I can happy connect the M4 and M5s to the switch and within 20 seconds I get the wired status in the app.
The BE25s are just flakey. I''ll probably send them back and look for something better. Wasted too much time on something that should be easy.
I did the test in both ways with the BE25s. Having the master connect to slave 1 by cable - no change from wireless to wired even after 5 minutes. Same story if I connect the Master to the switch and then slave 1 to same switch - once (by luck I suppose) the slave registered itself as a wired connection. Then, as soon as I pluged in slave 2 the whole thing fell apart - slave 1 went off line and reverted back to wireless (and stayed that way). Have factory reset both slaves several times.
Weird thing with these BE25s - even when you factory reset them they automatically seem to join the master - it's as if there';s a factory programmed affinity.
Frustrating thing is, I can get as many M4/M5s wired into the switch for the backhaul - but maximum 2 of this beauthful devices. Worst still, the daisy chain theory also doesnt seem to work - i have three wired (+master) so thats 2x BE25 and an M4 and an M5. Try to get the 3rd BE25 to play ball with Ethernet even by daisy-chain to the slave 2 but no way. Only 2 of 3 devices can have a backhaul by the looks of it.
Sorry to waste your time with this silly exercise. The package of 3x BE25 which have the 2.5Gbps ports I neede and can establish PPPOE seemed good for 250€ - but if I think of the time I've wasted trying to make the most simple of configurations work - it was false economy. This evening I'll find something better that "hopefully" will worked as described. How crazy that my 5 years old M4/M5s work perfectly and this new cr@p can't even manage the basics !
Rant over 🙂 - OF connection through Pianeta Fibra is great - just need to run some more reliable speed benchmarks to see exactly how good it is compared to spec but I think I'll be happy with my choice.... The Wifi story is a neverending saga for most people. If I could run cables to every room I would but the house is old and it will take a lot of money to chase out the walls to get cat6e into each room - somehow I had naively thought technology had moved on 🙂 ...
